Why don't my classmates make any eye contact me in group discussion?

I am a chinese american female who goes to college. I speak english very well and was raised here in america. I dress very conservatively and am polite to people. I noticed that during group discussions though, I get totally ignored by people. When I speak, everyone immediately looks on the floor and nobody makes any eye contact with me. When other people speak everyone gives that person courtesy. When people talk, they look at everyone in the group except me. I look at everyone when they speak because I am polite, but when it's my turn I am basically ignored and get hostile glances and no eye contact. I have introduced myself to others and my classmates treat me badly. I make straight A's. I am a little older than the other students but not by 10 years. Why do classmates in group discussions act so cold and rude to me when they do not know me?

Dont feel bad about it. Many people feel intimidated by people like you. In addition to that, they have low self esteems and making others feel bad makes them feel good. If they see that they are making you feel bad then all you are going to wind up doing is encouraging them to continue this type of behavior. If you learn how to be happy in this situatuion and just ignore, soon they will see that you arent going to give them any type of satisfaction so they will eventually have to find another way to satisfy themselves. I hope you dont feel bad, Ive been bullied alot too and Ive learned that people like them arent worth it, so be happy and just ignore them. Chances are, they are jealous of you.
Reply:First of all they r probably intimidated by ur good grades and the wisdom in which u r able to bring to the discussion. Second of all u r only going to be w/these people until the class is over and it is a high probabilty u will never see them again - so let their rudeness be their problem not urs. And depending on the class and the topics of discussion - age is but a number.
