How to break the ice w/classmates.?

I'm taking an EMT course and there are 8 of us.

Of the 8 of us, I'm the only non-white student.

The rest of my classmates are from a small town that does not have "exposure" to diverse culture.

They're not goose stepping Nazis or anything...no one is yelling RAHOWA! or some crazy stuff like that.

But, I think I'm the only Dakota they've been this close to.

I know they want to know more, they're opening up...slowly.

Usually when I come across people like this...I just smile, wave and try not to give in to the urge of kicking their @ss for acting so damn weird.

What I need are pointers...how do I draw them outta their shells?

I need guidance, I need to know a way to end this with as little bloodshed as humanly possible.

Thank you for your consideration.

How to break the ice w/classmates.?
just be yourself, act nicely and be friendly. try asking them comun questions, like what other classess are they taking, how old they are? smile a lot. that attract people to open.

good luck
Reply:Well... you have to not look at color and race. God says that we are all the same... sinners. Pray about it and things will get better.

Reply:First you have to forget the skin color. To make friends, ask them for their opinions. People LOVE to know something you don't. Even if you know the answer - ask. That opens the communication. If you worry about it, your actions will be different. Next, do well. People respect those that are capable. Relax. Unless you're a jerk, they'll like you!
Reply:Talk about things they like to do or ask them how they liked some sporting event..
Reply:Invite a few friends over to eat some evening.

Also, you might bring up some Dakota tradition or symbol that they might find intersting and explain it to them , saying "I thought you might like to know this cool bit of Dakota tradition"

Anything tribal is very intersting to those who don't know.

If you have arrowheads, you might give them one. I am part Cherokee, and people just love arrowheads. Many have been given away.

The next thing to do is to ask them about themselves. People love to tell you about themselves if they feel you are truly interested and you are listening.

Jokes are also gr8 ice-breakers. So learn a few good ones and then share the laughter.

Good luck to you!

You seem very kind.
Reply:Just take it slow, and listen. No one likes Someone who talks too much especially if They do not know the Person. Think about Your Friends and how You first met Them, then be Yourself. Usually if a Person is quite, pretty soon Others will be trying to get Them to talk. But when You find out more about Them try to talk about things You have in common. Little worried about this as little bloodshed as humanly possible comment. Just curious do You just think in Your head You would like to slap some, for the way They act, or do You do it? I honestly mean no harm just wondering, You seem a little angry and nice all at the same time.

Wish You all the best in Your studies, and with Your Classmates, Hope You get really good and save thousands of Lives, if not more. God Bless
