My classmates bullied me about my chosen faith again today. How can I get them to stop?

So today I was writing a paper in class that used the term G-d about three times, (the lord almighty sort, not the greek and roman sort).

I'm uncomfortable spelling out the lord's name so I often spell it G-d. Well one of my classmates was proofreading my paper and saw that I did that and he asked me why. I told him that in my personal views it is bad to spell out the name of the lord and that others in my faith do it too, though I may be slightly more obsessive about it. So the kid asked me what my religion was. I said "I'm a convert to Judaism." and after class was dismissed him and three other kids started calling me a dirty Jew and staying I should stay Christian because 'Jews are nothing but greedy pricks'

I hate to say this but get used to it! If and when you convert then there ARE going to be times when people say racist things, either directly to your face, or in front of you when they don't realise you're Jewish.

I went to a mixed faith school and on countless occasions people insulted me. The first time it happened, a girl in my year actually threatened to kill me - just because I was Jewish!

Next time it happens, simply look them straight in the eye and say calmly, 'What a nasty little racist you are. Is that what a good Christian does?'

That's all you have to say.

And you can also remind them that Jesus lived and died a practising Jew.

I know it's hard - it really is - but try and stay calm. And when you get home, punch a cushion to get rid of any anger!!!
Reply:Kids are assholes. Just don't react to it.

By the way, God is not a name, it's a title. The Jewish deity is named YHWH.
Reply:Christian love at it's finest. You could start by telling your parents. Coming here won't solve your problem.
Reply:Tell them "Oh, yes. Now that you've verbally abused me and told me what a bad person I am, I'm going to go join your religion." in a really sarcastic tone of voice. Hopefully, that will make them think twice on what they said to you.
Reply:Stand up strong and proud. Feel sorry for the ignorant people who bully you and tell someone that you are being bullied. Keep telling someone until he/she does something about it.
Reply:I would say turn the other cheek but that is a Christian Ideal. As a Jew, I am unsure how you would deal with this sort of a thing. Perhaps its time to turn to God and ask him.
Reply:You can't. But I would suggest talking to a teacher about it. In Australia most schools have a view that all religions should be tolerated. Students who don't are censured. They may be given detention or if it is judged to be bad enough they could be suspended. There are also federal laws prohibiting what is called Religious vilification. it means in Australia at least you could take them to court. I don't know what country you are in but I would presume that there are similar standards in most western countries.
Reply:This is typical Christian behavior. Every time they hear that someone is a non-Christian, they turn into savages.

Trying to avoid them is the best thing you can do. If that is not an option then you should stand up for yourself.
Reply:you can't change other people.

you can simply ignore and avoid these "people."

if it continues, talk with your guidance counselor. you do not have to tolerate that kind of treatment from anyone, but may need an authority to get it to stop.
Reply:I'm not normally a tattletale, but you need to tell not only your parents but a school counselor. You have a legal right to be protected from harassment in school.

As for your classmates, they must be dunces if they don't know Jesus was a Jew.
Reply:Remind them that they are the ones worshiping a Jew, not you. Ask them if Jesus is a greedy prick. And may I say that I too am a Jewess by choice. You are not a convert even though you did convert at one time. I think that saying we are a Jewess by choice is more assertive and shows much pride in our standing and good sense.

Lona,Jewess by choice

hugs to you.
Reply:Welcome to the world of Anti-semetism.

As them if Jesus taught them to be bigots.
Reply:Doesn't sound like appropriate "paper in class" for a public school. American public schools are fastidiously empty of "G-d". You shouldn't be writing about G-d in public school.

If however it is faith-based private school, you've got grounds for disciplinary action against classmates.
Reply:Paperback has given you good advice. This stuff happens because people are ignorant, and feel threatened when people stand out from the crowd. Your sense of conviction about wanting to be Jewish is quite a challlenge to them, I think. As Paperback suggests, find something very clear to say to them which reminds them that Christianity is meant to be about love. Apart from pointing out that they are misinformed and have fallen victim to absurd prejudice when they talk about Jewish 'greed', I wouldn't try saying too much more than your chosen sentence. Just keep repeating it, saying you don't think they seem to have heard/understood/listened properly. They WILL stop eventually. Horrible though it is, you will have to get used to this - this is why you so much need to find a real Jewish community (not just us lot here).

PS and ecterbob is, as always, spot on.
Reply:These people don't sound as if they're worth the effort. Don't worry--we'll see how much they're interested in calling you a "dirty jew" when they work for you.
Reply:If someone disrespects you, you stand up for yourself and disrespect them back. First off, let a teacher know whats going on so you have some back up.
Reply:It never stops, but you learn to deal with it over time.
Reply:You should expect persecution like this. Welcome it!! The apostle Paul instructed us to rejoice when we are persecuted because that shows us that we are not of this world, but are in God's will. So, I say REJOICE!!
