Anyone participate in Classmates.com?

I just signed up a few days ago and sent a couple emails to old classmates. They haven't opened them. Do they actually send them? I know I would open any emails I had received that said someone at Classmates was emailing me.I was wondering how reliable the service is. What have been your experiences?

I like it. Not only did I find several old friends from the sixties, I managed to get two of them to meet me in town for pizza and beer. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), one died a few weeks after the reunion. Fortunate in that he got to see a couple old friends and reminisce about the good old days before he expired.
Reply:I was very disappointed with their responses to questions I had. It took over 5 days for them to send me an email back to a simple question I had. I cancelled my membership before my 7 day trial membership was up.
Reply:Yes, I have sent some emails to old classmates too. Classmates.com is very reliable. I have gotten emails back from some of them but some had not opened theirs so I'm guessing it's because they haven't been online for awhile. I have also received emails from former classmates and each time I have had emails in my inbox from classmates.com telling me someone has sent me a message. Good luck with reuniting with old friends.





***If you send an email to someone on classmates, it is sent to their classmates.com inbox. So they have to log into classmates in order to receive it. Fortunately, classmates will send them an email saying that they have received a message from you. Once the person reads your email, they can then contact you free through classmates or even better, make sure you give them your email address so they can email you directly.

I actually did find old long-lost schoolmates, but no one I was very close to.





It was a bit like trying to make new friends. Over-all I was disapointed!





Eventually I did not reup for another year.

Even though it will satisfy your curiosity after a while, you will find that just like at reunions, people pretty much live their own lives and loose interest in re-acquainting themselves with old schoolmates. We pretty much keep in touch with the people who mattered, so anyone else is just not as much of a strong interest.


Only one gal from my class of 700 students has kept up with me. She wasn't even in my circle of friends, but was in fact, one of the mean-spirited kids from back then. She had matured, raised her kids, is a grandmother, and her hobby is animal rescue. So, she sends me emails all the time on some rescued pet who needs a home.


So, for the most part, it's great to find someone you truly 'lost', but it also opens up doors from persons you DIDN'T want to hear from (or recently some guy who claimed he had a crush on me, but I can't find him in any of our classbooks, so I figured him to be "fishing" and looking for trouble---I sent him a cordial email back and informed him I am newly married and not interested).


So, in it's newness, Classmates.com was one of the pioneer of this form of databases. Now, there are dozens out there, and we have so many different websites out there that nothing is new anymore. Classmates isn't real open to browsing as they use to be if you were not a "member", and I just periodically update mine for info purposes only. No interest in contacting anyone at this point anymore.

Reply:you can signup but it might cost you a small monthly fee, im sure if any of your classmates receive your e-mails they will probably e-mail you back. good luck
